Zorgeloos: voorbij de gezonheidskloof

The health gap in Belgium remains a major problem. Medical research is mainly focused on men, so women’s complaints are often not taken seriously. As a result, conditions such as endometriosis and heart problems in women often go untreated for years. Basic needs such as dental care remain too expensive and therefore unattainable for many people. In addition, the medical world is still too focused on white people, meaning that people with a different skin colour often get misdiagnoses. These examples show how structural and widespread inequality in healthcare is.
Despite increasing attention to this inequality, the problem remains largely unaddressed. This is why ‘De Maakbare Mens’ is organising the Zorgeloos: voorbij de gezondheidskloof event on Saturday 16 November, where together we will explore the causes of this inequality and exchange ideas for possible solutions. The event will include workshops, speakers and a panel discussion.
